Tony Ruegger made a presentation on “Traces of the American Revolution in Paris”. It focused on several American and French personalities having material impacts on the American Revolution who also lived and worked in Paris during that time. Included were Benjamin Franklin, the Marquis de Lafayette, Comte de Rochambeau, Comte de Grasse, John Paul Jones, John Adams, Thomas Jefferson, and Thomas Paine.
In addition to recounting some of their wartime activities, the presentation highlighted specific locations in Paris that can be visited relevant to their time there, including sites of former homes, buildings where they met or signed important treaties, gravesites, and monuments honoring them and their accomplishments.

The fact that four men who would later become presidents of the United States spent considerable time in Paris during the last quarter of the 18th century is testament to the importance our Founding Fathers and the Continental Congress placed on our relationship with France, the nation that became our greatest ally, contributing the human and financial resources that made the difference between success and failure in our quest for independence.
